About

What we believe

The blueprint already exists.

Nature has already
done the work

We were founded on the principle that limiting ourselves to the history of human knowledge has not been enough to build a sustainable future. Modern human-centered design, for all its strengths, has forgotten and is largely blind to the fact that nature has already solved the problems we are struggling with. And often, solved them better. From basic building blocks, performing chemistry in water, and no wasteful byproducts, nature produces the most complex and efficient materials, systems, and functions. Sticking with what we know, ignores the wisdom of the world around us.

Every organism on this planet has systems, strategies, and functions that have survived 3.8 billion years. Each one is specialized, adapted, and field-tested in ways that dwarf anything we have built. We believe in the question of not how can we master nature, but what nature has already mastered that we can learn from and use?

Whether we are applying the deep principles of convergent evolution or utilizing nature itself, nature-derived solutions offer the only sustainable path forward. If the natural world is the greatest R&D department, then capitalism has a vested interest in protecting it, and preserving it is not only an ethical position but also a strategic one.

Nathaniel O'Neal — founder

Nathaniel is a biochemist, biomimic, and former Peace Corps volunteer. His undergraduate research at the University of Oregon's Clark Honors College produced new molecules previously unseen in nature. This work revealed as much about the limits of human knowledge as it did about its potential.

Two years teaching chemistry in Liberia brought those limits into perspective. Surrounded by plastic waste, and hearing older generations describe how their community had come to look dirty from materials that simply didn't exist in their youth, something had to change.

He found that answer in biomimicry. A Master's degree at Arizona State University gave him the tools to pursue it and he has been passionate about sharing that work since.
